Azure bills grow quietly: a machine nobody switched off, a disk left behind, logs at debug level, a licence billed hourly that you already own. A month's cost export read in your browser shows the shape of the spend and the questions worth asking in the portal. Nothing is uploaded.

Where is the Azure money going, and what would we change first?

Download a month's cost export from the Azure portal and drop it here. We read it in your browser and show spend by service, the resources that cost the most, the machines running all month on pay-as-you-go prices and the storage nobody has looked at.

Nothing is uploaded: the file is read on your device and only the summary you choose to send leaves it. It reads what you were billed, not what you used, so it finds the shape of the spend and the obvious questions. The answers need someone in the portal, which is where we come in.

  1. In the Azure portal open Cost Management, then Cost analysis.
  2. Set the view to Cost by resource (or any daily view), the range to last month and choose Download, CSV.
  3. Choose that file below, or open it and paste the whole thing, header row included.
Any Cost analysis or usage details export works; we find the cost, resource, service and quantity columns by their names. Currency is read from the file.

Spend by service, the ten costliest resources, always-on pay-as-you-go machines and disks and snapshots appear here, with what we'd look at first.

Each finding is a question to answer in the portal, not a verdict. We go through them with you and put numbers on the reservations, the shutdown schedules and the Hybrid Benefit.

Is the export uploaded anywhere?
No. It is read by your browser and stays on your device. Only the summary you choose to send us leaves it, in a WhatsApp message you press send on.
What does it mean by always-on, pay as you go?
A virtual machine billed for close to every hour of the month at on-demand prices. Anything that runs all day and will still exist in a year is a candidate for a one or three-year reservation or a savings plan, typically around a third off and more for three years.
Can it find unattached disks?
Not from the export alone; a cost line does not say whether the disk is attached. It shows how much disks and snapshots cost in total, which tells you whether the five-minute check in the portal is worth doing.
Why is SQL Server on the list?
If the export shows SQL Server licence charges billed hourly and you already own SQL licences with Software Assurance, Azure Hybrid Benefit removes that line. It is one of the most common savings we find.
